In Bird Box, Netflix's hit horror flick starring Sandra Bullock, characters are forced to navigate through the movie while blindfolded so they don't catch a glimpse of monsters that have the power to kill them via that glimpse.
Travis Lyman tells the Deseret News the 17-year-old was cruising along a local parkway around 5pm Monday when she decided to take the "Bird Box Challenge" and pull her beanie hat over her eyes to see how she'd do while still behind the wheel.
Not well, Lyman says: "It didn't take long for her to lose control." The car, which was going about 35mph, started swerving and finally ended up in traffic going the other way, where it nicked another vehicle, then smashed into a concrete barrier and light pole.
Amazingly, no one was injured: not the teen driver, her 16-year-old male passenger, or the man in the other car. "It's just outrageous that somebody would think to do that," Lyman says.
"The stakes are just way too high to do something like that while you're driving."
